JOHN LAKE
FARRIER SERVICES
AFA CERTIFIED
Historically, the Farrier was the village Veterinarian and the Blacksmith, not only shoeing local horses, but also making almost everything metal.
That often included the making of tools, fencing, gates, cart wheels, door hinges and locks and more.
As time went on, the work of the Farrier and Blacksmith, became more specialized. He had to learn about Equine conformation issues, lameness and corrective shoeing. He had to be aware of conditions where an individual might not need shoes at all, but be better off going barefoot. He had to be aware of how much a balanced and healthy foot, is not only for the comfort of the horse, but also how it relates to his performance in the owner's preferred dicipline.
John Lake is such a person. He was born and raised in Michigan. He joined the Navy shortly after high school and traveled the World while serving his Country.
John's priorities changed with the birth of his two daughters. No longer wanting to leave his family for extended periods of time to serve overseas, John retired with 21 years of faithful service.
John's ambition was to be self-employed after his Naval service. Having long owned horses of his own, it was natural that he sought a career in the Equine
industry. After graduating from Sierra South Horseshoeing School in Ramona,
California, John has built a successful farrier business. He strives to
provide his clients with reliable, professional services. While Gypsy Horses and Shires, have become John's personal breeds of choice, he has had vast experience with all breeds, from Minis to all the large Draft breeds.
As the Lake family prepares to move from California to Michigan, John will
be looking to build a new business in the Western Michigan area. We hope to
make the move during the Summer of 2007. He will be starting completely over
in Michigan, but he is looking forward to meeting new people and new horses.
This is a picture of John, with one of his "clients".
He's a huge Clydesdale gelding, who was a former Budweiser wheel horse.
